Event Description: Dr. Solee Lee-Clark will present “Time Travel with a Harpsichord,” a lecture and recital, on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Muskegon Community College Overbrook Theater. The event, being held in conjunction with the Muskegon Area Arts and Humanities (AH) Festival, is free and open to the public. “I chose this topic to go with this year's AH festival theme ‘About Time,’” explained Lee-Clark, who currently teaches piano and music theory at MCC and co-directs music at the First Congregational Church in Muskegon. Her lecture will focus on the life of the harpsichord, a popular instrument during 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. “By the year 1800, the piano took over harpsichord's spot as the basic instrument of European music,” said Lee-Clark. “Since then, the harpsichord has been neglected. With the revival of baroque music in early 20th century the harpsichord came back to musical stage. Lee-Clark’s recital presents 16th century English music, 18th century Baroque music from different countries, and 20th century music by Ligeti. A native of Seoul, Korea, Lee-Clark started playing piano at the age of four. She received her bachelor’s degree in music from Kangnam University in Korea, a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Southern California and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from West Virginia University As a recitalist and accompanist, Lee-Clark has presented programs throughout the U.S., France, and Korea. She was a featured soloist with the West Virginia University Orchestra, Collegium Musicum, and the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra.
