Event Description: The 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast on Jan. 16, 2015 at MCC’s Collegiate Hall features a presentation by Wesley Hall, a nationally known author on the topic of engaging boys of color in paths to success. Tickets to the event, which begins at 7:30 a.m., go on sale in December 2014 and can be purchased at the Frauenthal Box Office or the MCC Bookstore, both during their normal business hours. The cost is $200, for a reserved table for 8, or $20 each. Call (231) 777-0569 for more information The annual event celebrates the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and seeks to build understanding in the community. Hall’s visit to MCC will be supplemented by other community activities to bring attention to the issue of disengaged youth in the Muskegon community and positive ways to get them on the path to success. Named a “Successpert” in 2001 by Black Entertainment Magazine, Hall is a renowned national keynote speaker, radio talk show host, author, and educator. He founded the Institute for Student Empowerment. He has broadcasted in some of the top markets in the country, including Oakland/San Francisco and Los Angeles, Calif. His book You Are the Money! received national acclaim as has his work with teachers and students. The Washington Post featured Hall and his “Success Strategies for Working with Disengaged Students.” Hall currently serves as an Empowerment Coach for the Los Angeles Unified School District and is active in the district's rollout of President Obama's initiative to boys of color called "My Brother's Keeper." Developing the “Student Voice” and creating youth-driven solutions is also a critical aspect of Hall’s work throughout the district. He recently released his new children’s book, Jack and the Sly Fox.
