Date: 5/23/2015 Time: 10:00 AM TO 10:30 AM Muskegon South Pierhead Light 1431 Beach Street Muskegon, Michigan 49441 Phone: 2312062108 Event Description: Join us at the lighthouse as we make Muskegon Maritime history! The Muskegon South Pierhead Light (est. 1903) will be opening to the public for the first time on a regular schedule this summer. At Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy, a ribbon-cutting has been planned for Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. to honor this momentous occasion. Those who attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be given an unlimited amount of free children's admissions with the admission purchase of an adult Tower Tour (adults $4, kids 12 and under, traditionally $2 each). Immediately following our ceremony, another ribbon-cutting will take place down the beach with Disability Network of West Michigan at 10:30 a.m., honoring the unveiling of their accessible beach walkway at Pere Marquette! Please join in the celebrations and stay at the beach to climb our community's 48 foot tall lighthouse! Children must be 3 foot tall in order to climb, and sturdy shoes are suggested. Directions: DIRECTIONS Take US-31 into Muskegon. Take W Laketon Avenue and go east towards Lake Michigan. W Laketon Avenue turns into Lakeshore Drive, keeping heading east. Lakeshore Drive turns into Beach Street entering into Pere Marquette Park. Take Beach Street and stay to the left at the curve and follow it around to the Margaret Drake Elliot Park. Parking is available in Margaret Drake Elliot Park behind the US Coast Guard Station or travel into Pere Marquette Park and park along the beach to walk to the lighthouses. The South Breakwater Light is accessed from the beach by walking out to it on the breakwater. The South Pierhead Light is accessed through the visitors pathway at the NOAA Lake Michigan Field Station at 1431 Beach St., Muskegon, MI. 49441. PARKING Parking is available in Margaret Drake Elliot Park behind the US Coast Guard Station or travel into Pere Marquette Park and park along the beach to walk to the lighthouses.
