Event Description: Nearly a foot of newly-fallen snow covered the sand dune behind Sherman Poppen’s home on Christmas Day in 1965. In his attempt to entertain his two young daughters, he created the prototype for the Snurfer. This is the story of the toy’s evolution into the snowboard, and Muskegon’s role in the creation of an Olympic sport and multi-million dollar industry. Join historian Ron Pesch for this journey highlighting the 50th anniversary celebration of Poppen’s invention.
