Event Description: Presented by Harbor Hospice and Ever Rest Funeral Home, Dignity Memorial This program discusses the nature of Complicated Grief, a significant deviation from typical grieving patterns, and the various ways grief can be complicated. While most people are able to cope with the pain of loss, 7-20 percent of bereaved persons have more complicated reactions that may impair and impede functioning for a prolonged period of time. The program addresses risk factors, assessment, danger signs, and current treatments, and is designed to assist counselors and others working with bereaved persons understand, assess and assist individuals who may experience such complicated forms of bereavement. This educational program combines presentations by experts with video, discussion, and additional complementary learning materials. Join Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv; Robert A. Niemeyer, PhD; and Therese A. Rando, PhD, BCETS, BCT for this discussion (moderated by Emmy-award winning journalist Frank Sesno). The program is 2 hours, with an additional 30-minute local discussion required for those obtaining CE credits. 2.5-hours of continuing education will be available for $21 through Hospice Foundation of America for nurses, social workers, counselors, funeral directors, clergy, and more.
