Muskegon, MI 49442 Phone: (231) 777-0324 Event Description: The Muskegon Community College 2017-18 Lecture Series begins on Monday, Oct. 2, when Dr. Alan D. Steinman presents “Current and Emerging Water Resource Issues Facing the Planet” at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1110. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will examine the most pressing water resource-related issues facing the planet today, including climate change, water demand, water supply, excess nutrients, infrastructure, and pricing. In addition, emerging issues such as water-intensive crops, water conflict, and the water/energy/food nexus will be briefly discussed. “Water is arguably the most precious natural resource on the planet,” explains Steinman, who is the Allen and Helen Hunting Director and Professor at Grand Valley State University’s Robert B. Annis Water Resources Institute in Muskegon. “However, humans often behave as if this is not the case, especially in water-abundant areas.” Steinman hopes that audience members will gain a greater appreciation of the role water plays on this planet and the current challenges in using our water resources in a wise and sustainable fashion.
