Michigan State University’s Institute of Agricultural Technology (MSU IAT) at Muskegon Community College (MCC) provides hands-on, career-focused education that prepares students for success in Michigan’s agriculture, food, and natural resources industries. Through a unique partnership between Michigan State University and Muskegon Community College, students benefit from the resources, expertise, and reputation of both institutions while receiving personalized support in a local learning environment.

MSU IAT programs combine classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, field-based learning, internships, industry tours, and employer engagement to help students develop the technical and professional skills needed for high-demand careers. Students can earn an MSU certificate in specialized areas such as Food Processing Technology & Safety, Agricultural Operations, Fruit & Vegetable Crop Management, Landscape Management, and Urban Forest Management. Many students choose to pair their certificate with an associate degree from MCC, while others pursue the certificate independently.

The program emphasizes experiential learning, industry partnerships, workforce development, and career readiness. Students gain practical experience with modern technologies and industry practices while building professional networks that often lead directly to employment opportunities. Graduates are prepared for careers in food manufacturing, agricultural production, agribusiness, horticulture, environmental stewardship, and related fields, or may continue their education through advanced degree pathways.

By combining the strengths of a land-grant university with a community college setting, MSU IAT at MCC delivers accessible, affordable, and industry-relevant education that supports student success and strengthens Michigan's workforce.
