Event Description: 100,000 older adults will participate in activities at more than 1,000 locations throughout the U.S. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 as we celebrate the 19th annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day. The common goal for this day: to help keep older Americans healthy and fit. Always set for the last Wednesday in May, National Senior Health & Fitness Day is the nation's largest annual health promotion event for older adults. National Senior Health & Fitness Day is organized as a public-private partnership by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national information clearinghouse for the older adult market. 2012 Theme: "Get Moving...Start Improving!" AgeWell Services will be hosting their event at The Maranatha Conference Center, located at 4759 Lake Harbor Road, Muskegon, Michigan. There will be vendors with free give-a-ways, several fitness demonstrations, opportunities to participate in things like: Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Pickleball, a Clogging Demo and much more! A delicious box lunch will be provided for $3. The event is FREE to the public. AgeWell Services mission is to promote healthy aging and maximize independence through nutrition, wellness, and supportive services in the community. AgeWell Services provides programs in Muskegon, Ottawa and Oceana Counties. A 501(c)(3) non-profit formerly known as Nutritional Services for Older Americans (NSOA) and Meals on Wheels. The agency began in 1973 and has expanded from nutrition program to offering a complete array of wellness opportunities for older adults. Meals Activity Centers are located throughout Muskegon, Ottawa, and Oceana counties. The programs mesh socialization, support services and nutritious meals to add more to life and keep older adults independent. With our 17 locations, you are sure to find one convenient to you. In addition, the Meals on Wheels program delivers over 1200 meals daily on 50 routes originating out of one kitchen. This service is committed to the belief that all have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own home. Our drivers not only bring healthy meals but a daily check on their wellbeing. The cost of home-delivered meals for one year is equal to the cost of one day in a hospital. Tanglewood Cafe is open to the public Monday through Thursday 8 am to 4 pm and Friday 8 am to 3 pm for breakfast, lunch and to go! Motion Visit any Activity Center or Tanglewood Park for a venue of life long learning opportunities and classes and activities to stay active. A focus on all aspects of wellness to create an extraordinary experience. Stay connected and volunteer! Morale AgeWell Services offers a variety of wellness and enrichment programs to benefit mature adults at multiple Activity Centers. Individuals can participate in educational classes and lectures in computers, music, language, health and nutrition, and more. One Activity Center, Tanglewood Park, houses an exercise room and assistance from a trainer, a beautiful café/coffee shop and a full-service kitchen. In addition to nutritious meals, there are plenty of social opportunities and access to community resources.
